We have to perform some activity on the straight-through and cross-over cable. Then we are being told to cut the end of the RJ 45 cable before joining the wire according to the type of cable (straight-through & cross-over).

Cutting the cable |
A crossover cable is used to connect like devices, like a router to a
router, but a straight through cable is used to connect dissimilar
devices, like a router to a computer. To create a straight-through cable, you'll have to use either T-568A or T-568B on both ends of the cable. The diagram depicted on the left and right shows clip of the RJ-45 connector down.

Straight-through cable |
To create a cross-over cable, you'll wire T-568A on one end and T-568B on the other end of the cable.
